Today's consoles feature a wealth of innovative technologies that make buttons more complex yet easy to deploy.
Typical products in this area include Siemens' SIRIUS ACT 3SU1 series buttons. This series adopts a modular snap on combination structure, achieving tool free installation, so designers can flexibly and easily match buttons, select switches, indicator lights, and housings.
This convenience complements the sturdy and durable design, making it suitable for demanding environments. The 3SU1 module adopts a metal and advanced plastic structure, with IP69K waterproof performance and meeting the rugged and durable NEMA requirements such as NEMA 4. This module has passed global certification, including parts that have obtained ATEX and SIL safety certifications, and can use functions such as emergency stop even in hazardous areas.
In addition, in addition to traditional hard wiring, the 3SU1 series also supports networks such as AS Interface, IO Link, and PROFINET. In addition to other advantages, these networks can also seamlessly integrate with Siemens Fully Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal, which has hardware configuration, fault diagnosis, and data management functions.
Analysis of Command Points for 3SU1
To understand the working principle of the button system, please refer to the components required for the front illuminated button (Figure 1). The core of this button system is a base with mounting holes, which accommodates buttons at the front and module slots at the rear for installing contacts, LED lights, and other accessories.

This modular concept extends to a wider range of 3SU1 series. For example, the system includes a housing that can accommodate up to six controllers in a single weatherproof device, a labeling system for customized identification, and a protective ring to prevent accidental activation of critical controllers.
Design example: illuminated start button
Let's take a look at a widely used control component: the start button. For this type of controller, 3SU10510AB400AA0 is a good choice (Figure 2). This illuminated button adopts a metal structure, with a high brightness illuminated ring around the green plastic button.

The environmental performance of the actuator is impressive. This actuator has IP69K protection performance, which means it can resist dust, spray, and even high-pressure and high-temperature cleaning. This device also meets NEMA Class 1, 2, 3, 3R, 4, 4X, 12, and 13 requirements. The working temperature range of this actuator is -25 ° C to 70 ° C, with an expected mechanical operation life of 3 million times, clearly designed for demanding industrial applications.
